Deconstruction: Urban Revolution Fashion Show

Written on August 23, 2010 at 10:34 pm, by kirish

Where has the prototypical runway show gone? It didn’t seem to matter as the people were out in droves this past Saturday for the Urban Revolution Fashion Show co-sponsored by SAFAM at the Radius Center. Not your typical fashion show,  designer Jesse Johnson combined varying facets of entertainment (fashion, dance, & music) into one eclectic display of performance art. Designers large & small are following the format left behind by the late great Alexander McQueen of performance art based fashion shows pushing the envelope of fashion presentation.

The people, the beer, & the art indeed! Curator Wes Harvey’s Invited 6 gallery opening at 706 Fredericksburg Road could be summed up in those 3 words.  Great support for the 6 invited artists Vincent Valdez, Kelly O’Connor, Chad Dawkins, Diana Kersey, Jeremiah Teutsch, & Kimberley Aubuchon in a unique block party like atmosphere outside coupled with the refinement of a gallery inside.

Film and Art On The Move

Written on July 31, 2010 at 3:55 pm, by Cosmo

The next time you are outside, look up to the sky and get some perspective.   In concert the world around us circulates like blood through a body.  We are the movement and we are on the move.  For so long San Antonio has been a loose knit scene of art school misfits, precocious playwrights, and musicians causing the kind of ruckus you can only get away with here under the protection of the south Texas sun in a wide open sky.  Here we make art dance, sing and come to life. We take it out all night three even four times a month.  It is just as important as tacos to us.  Sewn onto our lives like a backpatch on a leather, we wear it with pride even if it is under our suits and ties.  This movement has been here long before this website, long before the internet, long before you were born artist’s have moving and shaking this Alamo city to the sound of it’s own cumbia.  SAFAM is only here because of it, and putting a name and face to those of us who want it all laced together in one place a patchwork of creativity and inspiration.   So when you are flipping through the pages of this website and you are asking yourself who is the San Antonio Film and Arts Movement?  Go outside and look around. then look up and get some perspective.
